How Much Do Custom Cabinets Cost in Phoenix? An Honest Breakdown

Custom built-in cabinetry installed in a Phoenix home

The most common question we get from Phoenix homeowners planning custom cabinetry: what's it going to cost? The honest answer is a range, because five variables move the number more than anything else. Here they are, in the order they usually matter.

1. Size of the run

Cabinets are quoted in linear feet or by the piece. A single-wall media built-in in a family room usually runs 8 to 14 linear feet. A galley kitchen runs 15 to 25 linear feet. A whole-house cabinetry package can easily hit 60 to 100 linear feet across kitchen, laundry, mudroom, closets, and built-ins.

Rough budgets for real Phoenix projects: single-wall built-in $3,500 to $9,000. Full kitchen cabinetry $18,000 to $60,000. Whole-house package $40,000 to $150,000 and up. These are wide ranges because the next four variables move each one significantly.

2. Material and finish

Paint-grade MDF with plywood carcasses is the value option. Real-wood faces (maple, alder, oak, walnut) add 20 to 60 percent depending on species. Rift-cut white oak and walnut are premium. Painted finishes are similar in cost to stained; specialty finishes (lacquer, hand-glazing, high-gloss) run higher.

The single biggest cost sink most Phoenix homeowners miss: hardware. Undermount full-extension slides, soft-close hinges, and premium pulls can add $1,500 to $5,000 on a kitchen alone. Worth every dollar.

3. Complexity of the layout

A wall of identical uppers and lowers is fast to build. An asymmetric media wall with an integrated TV, hidden wire chase, angled corner, and adjustable shelving is not. Every custom detail adds shop time.

The rule of thumb: every intentional detail visible from the room adds 4 to 12 hours of shop time. Ten intentional details is a week of extra work.

4. Removal, prep, and coordination

Ripping out old cabinets, patching drywall, moving plumbing or electrical, and coordinating with your countertop, appliance, and paint trades all cost. On a full kitchen remodel, expect 15 to 25 percent of the total for demo, prep, and trade coordination.

This is often where cheap out-of-town quotes go sideways. The cabinet price is fine; the missing 20 percent shows up as change orders.

5. Where the cabinets are built

Locally-built custom cabinets in Phoenix cost more than production cabinets shipped from out of state. In exchange you get: designer-drawn elevations, real changes during build, direct communication with the shop building your cabinets, and a local install crew you can call back if something binds a year later.

For homeowners who want to see their cabinets before they arrive, and change something if they don't like it, local custom is the only path.

Getting a real number

Ranges are useful for planning. A real quote requires an in-home consult and elevation drawings. That's included with every free estimate we do.

Frequently asked

Are custom cabinets worth it vs. semi-custom or stock?

For kitchens where the space isn't a rectangle, yes. Custom is the only way to size cabinets to non-standard walls, integrate appliances properly, and get finish quality that matches the rest of a high-end Phoenix home.

How long does a full kitchen cabinet project take in Phoenix?

8 to 14 weeks from design approval to final install, depending on scope. Countertops, appliance install, and paint scheduling drive the tail end.

Do you finance custom cabinet projects?

Not directly. Most clients use a home-equity line or renovation loan. We can provide detailed scope and pricing your lender will accept.

Do you work with our designer or general contractor?

Yes. We build to drawings and coordinate with your GC or designer throughout.
